….setting the pace and raising the bar.

Highlights for the Week of March 1st – 5th
This week all grades began a dance unit.
We study dance at the elementary school level for essentially three reasons. First, it is a great way to learn about the rich cultures of other countries. Many of the dances that we learn have been handed down from generation to generation, and these dances give the students insight into how people expressed themselves through dance and social gatherings. Second, dance is another form of physical activity. Dance requires balance, creativity, cooperation, and endurance. Third, we are preparing the students for future social opportunities. Weddings, anniversaries, middle and high school dances will give them the opportunity to socialize with friends and family, and they will have the confidence to dance at these occasions.
Kindergarten and First Grade performed the “Chimes of Dunkirk” and “La Raspa”. The students enjoyed the music from both dances and having different partners throughout the week.
Second through Fifth Grade performed “Cotton-Eyed Joe” and the “Virginia Reel”. They too enjoyed the music, having several dance partners, and working together in large group formations.
We will continue dance into next week.
